Most of the route follows the Øhavsstien trail and stretches over 11 km.
On this route, you will explore the historic manor landscape at Hvidkilde, enjoy the view from Egebjerg Mølle Naturrum and finish your trip with a cosy lunch at Vester Skerninge Kro. A day filled with history and nature experiences.
The trip starts in Svendborg (by bus).
Hop on the bus from Svendborg and head towards Hvidkilde. Get off at the farm buildings for Hvidkilde Herregård, a historic property with roots dating back to the 14th century and one of Denmark's largest landowners today. The beautiful white main building is private, so get off at the farm buildings with the distinctive large red wooden barn and the long white stable building with red half-timbering.
Find the sign with the blue hiker at the farm buildings. Head north along Løvehavevej and follow the signs up into the manor house landscape. Here you will walk through ancient cultural landscapes shaped by the manor house over the last several hundred years.
You will now walk through wooded and natural areas with names such as Løvehave (Lion Garden) and Folehave (Goat Garden) and eventually arrive at Egebjerg Mølle Naturum. The old mill has been converted into a nature centre with information about the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago.
A trip to the top of the architect-designed glass roof is a must. From the top, there is a phenomenal view of the entire archipelago. There are also picnic tables where you can take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee.
The walk then continues down through forests and hilly landscapes, with genuine South Funen charm, until you reach the country road again near Vester Skerninge. From here, turn right and follow the short road to Vester Skerninge Kro, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or afternoon coffee, which is highly recommended.
