This route takes you through the stunning Vejstrup Ådal, a meltwater valley created 17,000 years ago. You follow the Øhavsstien trail across lush fields and along the coast, past historic landscapes and idyllic forests, ending with the opportunity to enjoy a meal with a view.

Most of the route follows the Øhavsstien trail and stretches over 13 km.

The suggested route starts in Svendborg, where the trip begins (by bus).

Take the bus from Svendborg Station towards Vejstrup and get off just before the town at Vejstrup Ådal Shelter. Orient yourself by finding the pole with the Øhavssti hiking sign on the same side as you got off the bus (if you came from Svendborg), and start walking towards the southeast.

You will now descend through one of the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago's so-called geosites, namely Vejstrup Ådal, which is a truly fantastic meltwater valley created approximately 17,000 years ago when the ice receded from the area. The trail follows the river valley for about 4 km, but cuts across lush fields and cultivated land before reaching the water.

When the Øhavsstien trail takes a sharp turn to the right, you will understand why this landscape has been filled with fruit orchards, grapevines and berry bushes. It is lush and protected; indeed, you are walking through the very essence of the Danish cultural landscape.

Follow the path towards Svendborg. It will gradually take you closer to the water, passing Naturskolen and the privately owned Bjørnemose Gods, and then through Hallindskoven, which today is a paradise for mountain bikers, horse riders and dog walkers.

You will arrive at the waterfront at Christiansminde, which was once a favourite destination for the residents of Svendborg. Here, the bourgeoisie enjoyed a stroll, a relaxing boat trip or a refreshing dip in the fresh water of the sound. The area still exudes the same charming atmosphere that made it so popular back then.

The Christiansminde Hotel's bistro, with its lovely terrace by the water, may tempt you here. It is an ideal place to enjoy a late lunch or a relaxed dinner while enjoying the view of the water and letting the tranquillity wash over you. The waterfront location makes the meal a special experience, perfect for ending your walk in beautiful surroundings.

Then walk along Christiansmindesiten, which follows the water, past the harbour area, which is currently undergoing rapid development. The path takes you past the charming old harbour and back into the centre of Svendborg.
